What is The Zoo at Kathmandu?
In a mountainous land far, far away lies a very special zoo.... The Zoo at Kathmandu.
With this series of illustrated storybooks, I have set out to create a wonderful, charming series of stories, an immersive retreat for young readers to lose themselves in. Something quaint, funny - slightly old fashioned. Each book is a portal into a world filled with wonder and adventure where children can learn, laugh and dream. Join me and the zoo on a journey through the gentle, meandering pages of my books and let your imagination run wild.

Two friends get together for lunch. Elsa Schmidt has a lively sausage dog called Max and Harriet Carew has a quick tempered bald eagle called Archie (Archibald-Eagle). Carefully separated, Archie and Max are left in Mrs Carew's house while the friends go to lunch. Max finds a way to let Archie out and they go flying using the carry handle on Max's jacket and together, they fly all over Kathmandu.

A polar bear cub slips from her pen into the cage next door where a seal and sea lion live. Neil is set on looking after her but Ryan the sea lion thinks this is crazy - polar bears are among the largest and fiercest animals in the world and Ryan and Neil aren't fierce at all. However, with affection and care, they build a close bond and a polar bear friendship is very special...

Noah the boa has a day out when a small door is left slightly open and he slips away to explore the zoo. Sarah and Gina, the keepers, go on a hunt for him with Molly the collie and Daniel the spaniel but he gives them the slip by finding all kinds of hiding places.
The Zoo at Kathmandu book series has been created for 4 to 8 year olds - bridging a gap between simpler children's 'picture books' and chapter books. Kind and gentle stories follow the chaotic mischief of the animals living in this imaginary zoo. Rhyming names add fun and sillyness - why not, and help children remember and favourite the characters; Enola-Clare the polar bear, Brian the lion, Ringo the dingo, Samantha the panther and many, many more....
